More than 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers remaining in Crimea after its unification with Russia have been accused of treason and desertion, says the Deputy Attorney General Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoliy Matios.
"As for the military, criminal proceedings have been opened against soldiers who did not leave Crimea for the mainland Ukraine after Crimea’s joining Russia. These are nearly 5,000 people from different types of troops, including naval aviation”- Matios said.
"More than 3,000 people have been declared suspicion... The work on the issue continues, they should bear adequate responsibility for their crimes," – announced the Deputy Attorney General of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Kyiv Pechersk District Court had approved the petition of the Prosecutor's General Office and had arrested the immovable and movable property of the Crimean authorities worth UAH 1.2 billion.
