25th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence: Parade in Kiev

On the occasion of the Independence anniversary the military got a new uniform.

A military parade began in the main street of Kiev Khreshchatyk. 200 pieces of military equipment and 4 000 soldiers will take part in the parade according to QHA correspondent.

The military are wearing a new uniform on the occasion of the Independence anniversary.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko takes the salute, and Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak personally congratulates all the units of Ukrainian troops.

Military orchestra performs Ukrainian songs.

Today the security measures are strengthened in the capital. Kyiv residents and guests will pass through metal detectors and have their IDs checked.

August 24, Ukraine celebrates the 25th anniversary of Independence. Ukraine used to be a part of the USSR as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.August 24, 1991 Ukraine declared its independence.

Declaration of Independence of Ukraine of 24 August 1991 was adopted on December 1 of the same year by popular vote.
In June 1992, the Supreme Council decided to consider the Ukrainian Independence Day on August 24 a state holiday. The first Independence Day was celebrated on July 16, 1991 to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty by the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR on July 16,1990.
