Moscow’s office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will be closed in 2015, head of Russia’s permanent mission at that organization, Eleonora Mitrofanova, confirmed on Tuesday.
She told TASS that the closure of the Moscow office was a part of the planned optimization of the organization’s structure.
“This is a planned closure. This issue was decided as far back as 2008, but has been postponed all the time,” Mitrofanova said. “As you know, UNESCO is now in a difficult financial situation, so efforts to find additional financing never stop. So, it was decided to find a practical solution to this issue.
