GILGIT-BALTISTAN (QHA) - 10 people including five Ukrainian citizens have been killed by gunmen in the remote region of Gilgit-Baltistan in northern Pakistan. Except Ukraine, the visitors were from China and Lithuania. The Ukrainians were members of the Kharkiv’s Alpinist club and were going to climb to the Nanga Parbat that is the ninth highest mountain in the world.
The Pakistani Taliban is one of two groups to claim responsibility for the attack at the base camp of Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth highest mountain. The bodies of the victims have been taken to Islamabad where they will be flown back to their home countries.
Despite these assaults the area has been a relatively secure part of the country.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the attack.
The Ukrainian government demands to conduct narrow search and to pay compensations to families of victims.
