Ukrainian President turns 50

According to Konstantin Yeliseyev, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, Pyotr Poroshenko will celebrate his birthday outside Ukraine.

The President will spend his 50th birthday conducting important bilateral meetings and participating in uneasy debates at the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly which is due to take place on September 26-29.

Born in the town of Bolgrad (Odessa region, Ukraine) in 1965, the future president and his family moved to Moldova 9 years later where he graduated high school.

In 1989, Pyotr Poroshenko graduated from the Taras Schevchenko University with a degree in international economics.

After graduating from the university, Poroshenko started his own business selling cocoa beans.

In the 1990s, he acquired control over and merged into a holding group several confectionaries, calling them Roshen and becoming the largest confectionary maker in Ukraine, reports the Korrespondent publication.

Elected to Parliament 4 times, Poroshenko has also served as Economic Development and Trade Minister, Foreign Minister and a board member of the National Bank of Ukraine.
