WASHINGTON (QHA) -

The U.S. Navy launched four fighter jets to intercept two Russian Tu-142 bombers. According to the US Navy, four F-18 fighter jets were sent to intercept two Tu-142 antisubmarine planes that approached a US aircraft carrier, Reuters reports.

The US aircraft carrier warship was participating in a bilateral training exercise with South Korea in international waters off the Korean peninsula. The Russian aircraft came within one nautical mile of the aircraft carrier, causing US fighter jets to intercept them. After being intercepted, the Russian warplanes left the area where the aircraft carrier was.
