Syria: terrorists- free areas increase

An area of 845 km2 has been cleaned out of the IS terrorists; the coalition forces carried out air strikes on the terrorists’ positions in Baragitah area.

The General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces reported on the state of affairs on the 20th day of the ongoing military operation " Euphrates Shield" in Syria.

According to a report as of September 12, 6.00 p.m. the coalition forces took security measures along the Syrian-Turkish border, cleaned and the Syrian regions of Jarabulus and Rai from the ISIL terrorist formation, expanded precautions, strengthened intelligence and surveillance.

So far, an area of 845 km2 has been cleaned out of the IS terrorists and 516 terrorists’ positions have been attacked. Today, the international coalition forces to combat ISIL carried out two air raids on the terrorists’ positions in Baragitah area.

The "Euphrates Shield" is a joint military operation carried out by the special operation groups with the Turkish Armed Forces and the Air Forces of the international coalition against ISIL terrorist organization in Syria, which started in the early morning of August, 24. The main objectives of the offensive are to clear the frontier regions from IS terrorists, ramp up the border security, provide support for the territorial integrity in Syria, as well as to prevent the creation of so-called "Kurdish corridor” on the southern border.
