KYIV (QHA) -

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) unmasked the traitor who turned out to be the head of one of the APU armament divisions, working for Russian intelligence, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Hrytsak said in an interview with an Ukrinform correspondent.

“I was told about the exposure of a traitor - the head of an armament department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Our military counterintelligence found that Captain 1st rank was recruited by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces in 2015. He managed to pass the Russian curators almost sixty documents. The special services of the Russian Federation paid him a substantial sum in dollars and promised a "heavenly life" in Crimea after his retirement. However, he was not lucky,” Hrytsak said.

He added that the SBU will publish the details on this case in the near future.

The head of the SBU noted that attempts to recruit the Ukrainian military by Russian security services are reported regularly.

So, in late November, the Security Service of Ukraine reported on the results of operation conducted by the SBU military counterintelligence for more than two years, during which the plans of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the GRU of the General Staff of Russian Defense Ministry to create intelligence network among the officers of Ukraine’s Naval Forces were disrupted.
