MOSCOW (QHA) -

Representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church refused to read last rites for a Russian contract army soldier killed in Syria. Vadim Kostenko, 19, was killed in Syria, his body was returned home for burial, said father of the late in an interview with Russian radio station.

According to the contractor’s father, the clergy refused to come to the funeral and hold a funeral service. One of them, who did come, said the reason for the latter was the decision by the Russian Defense Ministry to qualify the soldier's death as a suicide.

Taking into account multiple horrific injuries on the son’s body, the family of the deceased does not believe in the version by the Defense Ministry and is insisting on repeated medical examination.
