One of the mines hit the embassy compound while three others exploded outside the embassy’s perimeter wall, reports the Russian Foreign Ministry’s press service. No one was injured or killed in the attack. There is no word yet on the extent of the damage done.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, militants of the Al-Nusra Front and groups affiliated with it are responsible for the attack.
It says in the Russian Foreign Ministry’s report that Russia’s Consulate General in Aleppo suspended its operation way back in January 2013. Some of the Consulates’ personnel were evacuated while others were transferred to the city of Damascus. The Consulate is currently being maintained by technical staff made up of local residents.
