MARDIN (QHA) -

A car bomb went off near a police station in mainly Kurdish Mardin town in the Turkish province of Midyat.

The bomb was planted in a car parked outside a building in one of the town’s busiest streets. According to recent reports, the blast killed two policemen and injured more than 30 people, some of them seriously.

Police and medics are reported to be working at the explosion site now.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim blamed the terrorist attack on Kurdish rebels.

It was reported earlier that 7 soldiers and 4 civilians were killed in a powerful blast that rocked downtown Istanbul this morning. The bomb went off near the Veznedzhiler metro station when a bus carrying police officers was driving by. Some 36 people were injured in the blast, three of them seriously.
