A blatant incident occurred in the Russian town of Kolomna during New Year celebrations. Police took a man into custody for taking pictures of two Christmas trees standing in front of the municipal administration building. No plausible reason was provided for holding the man up.
In the video of the incident taken by the man with a hidden camera, a police officer says that a special permit acknowledging that its bearer is a patriot is required to take pictures of the building.
“You ought to have gotten an appointment with someone - a deputy head or administrator, for example. You should have told them that you’re a patriot taking pictures for your blog,” a police officer told the man.
When asked what one can and cannot take pictures of, the officer said that that is confidential information and it cannot be divulged to ordinary citizens.
