“A parliamentary candidate was caught trying to bribe voters with UAH 250 in Kiev on October 22. The candidate failed because an officer with the newly created police, who was among the voters he tried to bribe, caught him in the act. An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing,” said said Olga Ayvazovskaya, CEO of Opora NGO, during the ‘Right to Rule’ talk show aired by 1+1 TV Channel.
“A police officer witnessed voters being bribed. An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing,” said Ayvazovskaya. She went on to say that there have been quite a number of incidents like these but only few of them have been investigated by police, and even fewer have ended up being tried in court. According to her, as few as 40 criminal probes have been launched into cases of electoral bribery nationwide.
