The OSCE SMM patrol came under fire outside the village of Avdeevka, says a report on the OSCE’s Twitter page.
“The OSCE SMM patrol came under small arms fire near Avdeevka - Yasinovataya,” the report says.
None of the OSCE personnel is reported wounded.
Today, the OSCE SMM patrol arrived in the occupied town of Yasinovataya in the Donetsk region to assess the security situation there, as well as communicate with the locals. The OSCE SMM patrol also planned to visit sites where hostilities were reported. Before that, the OSCE SMM patrol paid a visit to the town of Zaitsevo.
According to an OSCE report released this March, the death toll in Donbas increased to 10 thousand people. Recent days have seen the number of ceasefire violations triple.
“The reason for the ongoing hostilities is that the towns of Yasinovataya, Avdeevka and Stanitsa Luganskaya are too close to each other. We discussed with the parties to the conflict how the troops on both sides could be withdrawn from these ‘hot spots’. To achieve this, we have been working closely with the Joint Center for Ceasefire Control and Coordination,” said Deputy Head of the OSCE mission Alexander Hug.
