The Emergency Situations Committee has held an off-site meeting today to discuss ways of defusing a 1,000 kg sea mine uncovered in the Black Sea, says a message posted on the website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Crimea.

Located at a depth of 13 meters some 400 meters away from the shore line, opposite the Ay-Petri recreational facility, the explosive ordnance has been identified as an aircraft-laid bottom mine of the AMD-1-1000 type.

The shore area opposite the mine’s location has been sealed off by the police. A mine disposal operation involving bomb disposal experts and rescue workers is due to start at 4 p.m.
