A serviceman of the Bashar al-Assad regime escaped from Syria and sought asylum in the Republic of Turkey.

The Syrian military crossed the Turkish-Syrian border near the Turkish province of Hatay and was detained by border guards, and after handed over to law enforcement officials for questioning.

During interrogation, the detainee said that he was forced to serve in the ranks of the Assad regime army, and participate in the fighting.

Reference: The civil war in Syria began in March 2011 with the shooting of peaceful protesters by military personnel. As an ally of the repressive regime of Bashar al-Assad the Air Forces of the Russian Federation systematically carried out air strikes on alleged positions of the Syrian opposition in eastern Aleppo, destroying and civilians as well.
