Man blows himself up on Russian-Ukrainian border

KYIV (QHA) - A man who tried to illegally enter Ukraine blew himself up and two border guards at the international automobile border-crossing point Bachivsk on the Ukrainian-Russian border on Thursday night, the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) said in a statement, reports Ukrinform. According to reports, on October 4 a Mercedes van registered in Moldova with 4 passengers - Moldovan citizens arrived at 00.15 in the Bachevsk border-crossing point in Sumy region. When inspecting the vehicle, the border guards found another man, who hid inside. It has been established that he had crossed the Russian border-crossing point Troebortnoye this way. The detainee was moved to the passport control booth, where he presented a Russian passport. However, during the checking, it has been found that the document did not belong to him. "At 00.44 during a conversation the detained man blew himself up using an unknown explosive device. The man died and two border guards were wounded: Senior Warrant Officer Mykola Usok and Sergeant Major Ruslan Bozhok," the SBGS said. The injured border guards have been taken to the district hospital in Hlukhiv. They are in critical condition. A joint investigation group from the General Prosecutor's Office, Interior Ministry, Security Service and SBGS are working on the scene. Security has been tightened in the Ukrainian-Russian border section. Passage of persons and vehicles through the Bachivsk checkpoint is temporarily halted.
