SIMFEROPOL/AQMESCIT (QHA) -

Leaflets urging to speak Ukrainian are being plastered all over Simferopol, reports Leonid Kuzmin, an activist of the Ukrainian Cultural Center, on his Facebook page.

“Leaflets reminding residents of Simferopol of the Ukrainian language are being plastered in Simferopol on the occasion of the Day of the Written and Spoken Language. 80% of the leaflets have been torn down by the local residents within a day,” wrote Kuzmin.

Made a national holiday by Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma who issued a relevant decree in 1997, the Day of the Written and Spoken Language is celebrated annually on November 9 and coincides in time with the Orthodox day of remembrance of Nestor the Chronicler.
