Kyiv: Pensioner grew cannabis in greenhouse

The cost of seized by police ‘harvest’ amounting to UAH 3 million.

The officers of Dneprovsky District Kyiv City Administration of the MIA of Ukraine have detained a pensioner, 61, who cultivated cannabis along with vegetables in greenhouses on his plot of land, says a statement published on the MIA of Ukraine website.  

He dried and stored the grown plants in a basement. According to him, he cultivated the cannabis exclusively for his own needs, for medical use.

The police officers have seized around 100 kg of drug ‘harvest.’ As of now, the Investigation Department of the Dneprovsky District Administration has opened criminal proceedings under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Art. 309 (illegal possession of drugs) and Art. 310 (planting or cultivation of cannabis). The pensioner faces a sentence of imprisonment up to 8 years.
