A helicopter crashed during the fire extinguishing in the area Büyükçekmece in Istanbul on March 10 at 11:30 local time.

There were seven people aboard the helicopter.

The governor of Istanbul Vasip Shahin said that, according to preliminary data, five people were killed as a result of the accident.

According to media reports, the helicopter belonging to the group of companies Eczacıbaşı crashed on the road in the district of Büyükçekmece in the conditions of a strong fog. The company confirmed that there were four Russians on board the helicopter. Among the dead are Director General of VitrA - the Russian division of the "Eczacıbaşı" holding - Salim Ozen, as well as Russian citizens Aleksandr Vanin, Igor Kochergin, Lyudmila Churova and Elena Badraga.


Firefighters arrived at the scene. The causes of the incident are not yet established.

The helicopter was not on the balance sheet of the metropolitan municipality.
