At about midnight in Mukachevo, two young adults were heading home when they got into a verbal fight with a man. After a while, a car drove up and two men got out of it, one whom fired two shots at one of the young adults who was 18. The man was taken to a hospital afterwards where he died from the sustained wounds, says a statement issued by Internal Ministry Branch in the Zakarpatya region.
According to Sergey Knyazev, Chief Police Officer of the Zakarpatya region, a Gypsy camp was set on fire in Mukachevo early in the morning. Two living units, a shed and four vehicles are reported to have been destroyed in the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be established but police believe an arson attack took place.
According to mukachevo.net, a mob enraged by the murder headed to the Gypsy camp and set it on fire at about 4 a.m.
Politician Victor Baloga wrote on his Facebook page that the murderer is a son of Kalman Olah, a local underworld leader, who is also a deputy of Mukachevo’s City Council and member of the Pyotr Poroshenko faction.
Police have placed the murderer and his father under arrest and launched a criminal probe into the murder. Both men are charged with premeditated murder and, if found guilty, face 7 to 15 years in prison.
Victor Baloga also wrote that the murdered young man had a pregnant wife and a child.
