ISTANBUL (QHA) -

According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Kurdish militants are to be held squarely responsible for the blast at a bus stop in downtown Istanbul.

Erdogan went on to say that PKK militants often stage terror attacks in large cities, thus trying to help the Kurds gain their independence.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country will fight terrorism to the bitter end.

It was reported earlier that 7 soldiers and 4 civilians were killed in a powerful blast that rocked downtown Istanbul this morning. The bomb went off near the Veznedzhiler metro station while a bus carrying police officers was driving by. Some 36 people were injured in the blast, three of them seriously. Police and medics are reported to be working at the explosion site now.
