DONETSK (QHA) -

Since the beginning of the antiterrorist operation (ATO), 49 children were killed and 138 wounded by militants in Donbas, the National Police Headquarters in Donetsk region reports.

“Since the beginning of the terrorist aggression, 49 children were killed and 138 wounded in the Donetsk region. In the front-line areas, children survive in harsh conditions, without electricity, water and heating, the students go to school under fire sounds, and some of them even have no places to study,” reads the statement.

According to reports, only 542 schools with 155 thousand children out of 1198 educational institutions have remained in the territory under Ukrainian control. The rest institutions are in the occupied territory.

“Due to constant shelling and destructions, 13 schools have been closed in the near-front zone (the first line of the terrorists’ fire):  the villages of Avdiivka, Marinka, Vynohradne, Novotroitske, Myronivskyi, Pisky, Opytne, etc. Dangerous and unsuitable for education schools remain closed, since the situation across the demarcation line has escalated - the militants are increasingly targeting populated areas along the entire demarcation line,” the police reports.

So, about a month ago, the militants shelled the village of Novhorodske with Grad multiple rocket launcher system. As a result, 8 shells hit the school where 70 children and 15 teachers were at that time. The roof of the building was damaged but all children and adults survived.
