Deputy Chairman of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz detained in Crimea.

Akhtem Chiygoz detained in the framework of criminal investigation of Crimean Tatars' rally that took place on Feb 26, 2014, when thousands of Crimean Tatars held a rally at the building of then Crimean Parliament showing their support for Ukraine.

The rally came a day before armed men in unmarked uniforms seized the parliament building and the parliament voted to join Russia several days later.

"On Feb 26, 2014, unknown individuals called on Crimean Tatars to disobey local officials' lawful demands, which caused mass disorder accompanied with violence," Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said, commenting Chiygoz’s detain.

To recall, Jan 26, dozens of armed masked militants raided Crimean Tatar ATR Channel, reportedly searching for archive video materials of Feb 26, 2014 rally.
