Two persons were killed and 28 more sought medical assistance after clashes between pro-Russian and pro-Ukrainian activists in Donetsk on Thursday, according to the healthcare department of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Ukrinform reported.

More than 2,000 people gathered on Lenin Square in Donetsk on Thursday evening to rally "for" and "against" the unity of Ukraine.

The violence erupted as participants in two rival rallies broke through a police barrier in the centre of the city.
