ANKARA (QHA) -

On the night of August 26 to August 27, 2017, at the entrance to the Bosphorus Strait, the LEONARDO dry cargo ship broke in half. The vessel has repeatedly transported ilmenite for the Titan plant in the occupied Crimea via the Kerch-Burun Port in Kerch in breach of sanctions, BSNews reported.

The vessel was traveling unloaded from Rostov-on-Don to the Turkish port of Tuzla - after on August 8, 2017 another 3000 tons of ilmenite ore was delivered from the Turkish port of Samsun to the port of Kamysh-Burun. Currently, the aft part of the ship is at the Turkish coast, it was towed there by Turkish rescuers.

The 42-year-old Soviet-built dry cargo ship (Sormovsky type) was sold by Ukrrichflot in 2011 to the Turkish owner. Since August 2015 it is a figurant of the Syrian black list of the United States, since late 2016 it is included in the Crimean black list of the "Maidan of Foreign Affairs."

Previously, a cargo ship Anda with nine crew members on board crashed in neutral waters near the Crimea.
