The incident occurred in the city of Balakliia, Kharkiv region. The arsenal was blown up. Local residents leave the area of the military unit, where the ammunition depots were located, according to the portal Glavoe.
"We took just a bottle of water and our documents and quickly left the house," residents of the city reported.
Mobile communication is overloaded or not available, stationary constraint is not available in some places as well. Residents of houses located near the epicenter of explosions, wait for emergency in bomb shelters.
According to local residents, evacuation deployed in the local school in the village Neftyanikov, which is located in close proximity to the arsenal. Residents are forwarded there.
In the city of Balakliia evacuation was announced. Some of the residents are transported to the village of Savintsy.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, a commission headed by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Lieutenant-General Igor Pavlovsky, officers of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine flew to the scene to assist and identify the reasons for the incident.
The Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios stated an act of sabotage in Balakliia.
“According to preliminary data [now based on the results of investigative actions] of the investigative-prosecutor's group of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Kharkiv garrison and the Investigation Department of the SBU in the Kharkiv region [who are at the site of the incident], last night at 2:45, as a result of sabotage at several sites of the rocket and artillery weapons storage [tank and artillery shells 125 and 152 mm] near the city of Balakliia in the Kharkov region an explosion occurred (a fire broke out), which caused detonation of ammunition.
The total area of the arsenal is 368 hectares where 138,000 tons of ammunition were stored," Matios wrote on Facebook.
