SIMFEROPOL / AQMESCIT (QHA) -

At the Tavrida (Simferopol) TPP, located near occupied Simferopol, an accident occurred due to Siemens gas turbines which are under sanctions and not serviced by the company.

The press service of the Ministry of the Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine reported about the accident

“November 3, 2018 on the roof of the main building of the Tavricheskaya TPP, an emergency area was revealed with signs of damage to the roof due to thermal effects. The accident at the facility was recorded using space photography.”

According to preliminary data, damage was caused by commissioning works.

The ministry reminded that this TPP must run on natural gas.

The total capacity of the plant is expected to be 470 MW.

QHA reported that the roof of the Balaklava TPP in Sevastopol was damaged by the steam due to an incident during test work in late August. The incident occurred due to the fact that turbines of the German concern Siemens were installed at the Balaklava TPP bypassing western stations. Later, the roof was restored, and the design of the exhaust pipe was changed.

On October 1, in the annexed Crimea, the first power units of the Taurida and Balaklava TPPs were launched. Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Andrei Cherezov said that commissioning work had been completed at the plants. Commissioning of these TPPs is scheduled for November 2018. Their total capacity is expected to be 940 megawatts.
