Another Crimean Tatar, Eskender Kantemirov, was arrested in Crimea. Kyivsky rayon court of Simferopol has ordered to detain him for 2 month. The Court’s decision was supported by Crimean Prosecutor.
Kantemirov is charged with participating in “mass disorder” at Crimean Parliament building in Simferopol Feb 26, 2014, when thousands of Crimean Tatars rallied showing their support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Kantenirov’s arrest comes 10 days after deputy head of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, Ahtem Ciygoz, had been detained by the Russian Federal Investigative Committee, charged with organizing "mass disorder" during the Feb 26 rally. The court made a decision to detain him till Feb 19.
To recall, security forces raided independent Crimean Tatar television station ATR on Jan 26, seizing equipment and searching for archival footage of the pro-Ukrainian rally of Feb 26, 2014.
The rally, organized by Mejlis head Refat Chubarov, came a day before armed men in unmarked uniforms seized the parliament building and the parliament voted to join Russia several days later.
