US Secretary of State John Kerry has said that the United States stands ready to provide a $1 billion loan to Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday, Kerry said the U.S. is working on support for Ukraine as much as it can and is trying to determine Kyiv's needs. The U.S. has guaranteed at least $1 billion loan for Ukraine, he said.
According to him, US President Barack Obama issued an instruction to find a way to provide direct economic assistance to Ukraine.
Kerry said that the U.S. Congress was ready to pass decisions aimed at providing economic support to Ukraine. Obama asked the Congress to urgently develop a bailout package for Ukraine, which should be done immediately, as this assistance cannot be delayed, he said.
The U.S. is also working closely with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to draw up an assistance package for Ukraine to ensure its economic stability, Kerry said.
The U.S. is also rendering expert assistance to Ukraine to support its economy on the way of its restoration, he said.
