The number of people with incomes below the subsistence minimum in Russia, in the period January to September, increased by 2.3 million compared to the same period in 2014, BBC reports BBC.

The number of Russians classified as poor amounts to 20.3 million people, i.e. 14.1% of the total country population.

At the same time, the cost of foods of market basket in total decreased by 4.5%, non-food goods, and services - by 2.7% and 2.0%, respectively.

Tellingly, Kremlin earlier preferred not to recognize the ‘too strong’ reduction of Russian citizens’ incomes.
