Kazakhstan to import Norwegian fish, despite Russian demands

the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan has received an Order from Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor) forbidding purchasing Norwegian fish.

Russian side gives as a reason that Rosselkhoznadzor representatives have been refused entry 14 companies-suppliers for conducting appropriate inspection.

However, in spite of Russian officials’ expectations, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan has taken a principal stand and rejected the order having published the motivation on Ministry’s official site.

In particular, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan informed the Russian counterparts that such a ban would have been possible, if Kazakh experts had taken part in inspections. But, there have not been any experts’ opinion for today. Therefore, there are no any legal grounds for restricting imports of Norwegian fish to Kazakhstan.
