“Elections have always caused fluctuations in the forex market. That is why we are witnessing market volatility. These are short-term factors. We have a flexible exchange rate. There should be volatility,” Segodnya quotes Gontareva as saying.
According to Gontareva, the National Bank intervened on the market and all the banks had a chance to purchase dollars at UAH 23, but no applications were submitted. Therefore, the National Bank has not been conducting currency auctions.
It was reported earlier that the Hryvnia plunged in value against the US dollar by 1 UAH after the elections.
