Russian retailers have started withdrawing from commerce foreign brands of detergents such as Henkel, Procter & Gamble and Colgate-Palmolive, reports Kommersant newspaper.
This was caused due to the order issued by Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing). As of July, 28 Anna Popova, Head of Rospotrebnadzor, sent to the territorial administrations the letter informing that some foreign detergents do not comply with the sanitary-chemical and toxicological characteristics.
After laboratory studies have been conducted, Rospotrebnadzor started having claims to Henkel products, produced at the Russian enterprises in Perm and Engels, in particular, to the Vernal Spring freshness fabric softener, Persil expert sensitive washing powder and Pemos for children detergent. Also some products produced abroad got on the list, in particular Fairy Platinum dishwashing detergent, Palmolive NATUREL "The intensive moisturizing" with an extract of olive and moisturizing milk liquid soap, Emsal, the German agent for cleaning floors and Formula 409 - antibacterial cleanser for all types of surfaces.
On August, 19 Rospotrebnadzor has instructed retailers to withdraw these products from the market "in order to prevent harm to the life and health of citizens." Metro Cash & Carry, Auchan and X5 Retail Group have acknowledged the receipt of the letters. Metro Cash & Carry and Auchan have already withdrawn the products from sale. The Dixie has not yet received the letter.
According to Anna Sergeeva, Head of Rospotrebnadzor, verifications of foreign companies, which resulted in claims, were planned. The companies do not explain how they will settle the claims.
According to Euromonitor International, in Russia, in 2014 the detergent retail market amounted to RUB 103.7 billion. As of June 15, Russia has banned the supply of detergents Lotus and Eared nannies detergents , delivered from the Ukrainian company Vinnitsabythim, owned by Neva Cosmetics Company.
