In the occupied Simferopol and Sevastopol, two supermarkets of the German firm Metro still operate, as well as the Auchan hypermarket belonging to the French retail chain, and the delivery service DHL (Germany), according to the German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
According to the official representative of Metro from Düsseldorf, now the two supermarkets belong to subsidiaries in the Russian legal field, and from the point of view of corporate law "are not controlled either by the Ukrainian company Metro Cash & Carry, nor by the Russian company Metro Cash and Carry. " The same applies to the French supermarket chain "Auchan", which has its own supermarket in Simferopol.
Both stores of the company "Metro" receive goods from both local production and from Russia.
The German courier delivery service DHL is present in Sevastopol and Simferopol, using its usual logo, materials and traditional services. In February the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, with the help of DHL, sent a toy car purchased in Simferopol to Moscow. "A golden toy," said an employee in the DHL company uniform about the postage fee, which exceeded the cost of the toy itself several times.
The cash document indicated the Russian limited liability company Biologika as the "agent" of "DHL", and "Simferopol, the Russian Federation" was indicated as the point of departure.
DHL said that the company does not take any position on territorial disputes between countries, and to simplify the operational process in determining the route or delivery, certain places may in their work use the appropriate geographical code.
"These operational geographic data can in no case be political statements or any interference," the company said.
Earlier QHA reported that German companies DHL Express, Adidas and Puma are engaged in illegal activities in the annexed Crimea.
The Ministry of Temporary Occupied Territories of Ukraine said that companies that continue to operate in the Crimea after the annexation of the peninsula violated the UN resolution and the EU sanctions.
