NJSC Naftogaz confirms that it has received an invoice from Russia's OAO Gazprom to effect advance payment for Russian gas, the Ukrainian company's press service reported on Friday.
At the same time, the company will transfer advance payment to Gazprom depending on ordered amounts of gas. "The amount and schedule of advance payment depend on how much and when Naftogaz will order gas from Gazprom," the press service said.
Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said earlier on Friday that Russia was expecting prepayments from Naftogaz for November the next few days.
"We are expecting [this] in the next few days, because the Ukrainian side has paid the first tranche worth $1.45 billion for the repayment of its debt and this money was received by Gazprom on November 5. And Gazprom sent the bill for November according to the price that was formed with account of the discount - $378. Now, having received the bill, Ukraine should make the prepayment in the next few days. The bill accounted for 2 billion cubic meters, but the Ukrainian side has the right to pay for it in parts," he said.
Earlier, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolev said that the terms of the recent agreements with Gazprom allow the Ukrainian side to buy Russian gas to balance the system amid peak consumption.
