Yevpatoria hosts Crimean Tatar Festival ‘Gezlev Kapusy’

The 12th festival of Crimean Tatar and Turkic cultures ‘Gezlev Kapusy’, scheduled to run from August 19, 2015 to August 23, 2015, is currently being held in Yevpatoria city.  

Iskender Memetov, Chief Imam of Yevpatoria region, took part in the opening ceremony, the press service of the Crimean Muftiyat reports.

He welcomed the participants and guests of the Festival and recited a dua (prayer), expressing the hope that such activities would contribute to popularization of peace and harmony on the Crimean peninsula.

A wide range of traditional Crimean Tatar arts and crafts as well as Islamic products and souvenirs are showcased at the Festival. The 5-day entertainment schedule includes: ashiksk competitions (musical ring), Crimean Tatar wrestling tournament ‘Kuresh’, festival of martial arts, and performances of children’s groups and professionals.

According to organizers, the main objectives of the festival are the revival and development of Crimea nations’ culture and traditions, promotion of inter-ethnic relations and popularization of common cultural heritage of Turkic-speaking people.
