Ahtem Seytablayev ,producer and the leading actor of a Crimean Tatar movie “Haytarma” will play the role of Islam-Girey Khan in a new movie directed by Ukrainian producer Sergey Gorbik, reports Ukrinform.
The movie is about Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky and his uneasy relations with the Crimean Khanate.
“As a Crimean Tatar I am happy that for the first time the story of relationship between Zaporozhskaya Sech’ and the Crimean Khanate will be told. And I am happy to play a role of Islam-Girey”, said Seytablayev.
According to the actor, all existing literature narrating about this period of time tells that Ukrainians lost the battle of Berestechko because of betrayal of the Crimean Khan.
“In my opinion, this movie will show a wider story, a more thoughtful one. And for many it will probably be a surprise that the story was all different”, said the actor.
As reported, filming will take place in Kyiv, Lviv, Kamianets-Podolskiy and Bakchisaray.
Note: The Battle of Berestechko, the world's largest land battle of the 17th century, was fought between the Ukrainian Cossacks, led by Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky, aided by their Crimean Tatar allies, and a Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth army under King John II Casimir. Ukrainians had lost the battle.
