The number of participating countries has decreased from 28 to 21, the organizers of Turkvision show wrote on their Facebook page. It should be noted that the competition is not directly related to Turkey. It was organized by the Azerbaijani TMV TV channel in 2013.
“After the known events, Bashkortostan, Yakutia, Tuva, Altai and Khakassia refused to participate in the show. Tatarstan, Karachai and Balkars, Nogais, Kumyks, Crimea and Moscow region did not specify their status. Due to refusal of Russia and all its dependent regions, only 21 countries will compete. This will be the year with the lowest number of participating countries,” reads the statement.
Severance of contact with Turksoy and refusal of a number of Turkic-speaking regions of Russia to participate in Turkvision show was a response to the statement of the Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medina, who urged to cut off relations with the International Turkic culture organizations.
