“Parajanov” becomes Oscar nominee from Ukraine

Kyiv (QHA) - The Ukrainian Oscar committee, established under Ukrainian Producers Association, selected “Parajanov” movie for nomination to Oscar Academy Awards 2013 in the category best foreign language film, reports Interfax-Ukraine. According to official web site of the Ukrainian Producers Association, three movies participated in the selection process, namely- “Eternal Return” directed by Kira Muratova, “Parajanov” by Serge Avedikyan and Elena Fetisova and “Haytarma” directed by Ahtem Seytablayev. Six voted of members of the Committee were given to “Parajanov” movie. “Haytarma” and “Eternal Return” received 2 votes each, says the statement. The world premiere of “Parajanov” movie took place on one of the most prestigious international film festivals in Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) in July 2013, where "Parajanov" represented Ukraine in the ‘East of the West’ international program. During Odessa International Film Festival in 2013 the movie received “Golden Duke” as best Ukrainian full-length movie. The movie will be released in Ukraine on September 26 this year. To be noted, the 86-th Oscar ceremony will take place on March 2, 2014 at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
