After being operated upon a week ago, Svetin, 85, had stayed in the intensive care unit since August 23, 2015.

Born in Kiev on December 11, 1930, Mikhail Svetin, whose actual surname was Goltsman, graduated from Kiev School of Music in 1958.

His roles in hundreds of movies, predominantly comedies (the most popular ones being ‘Wizards’, ’12 Chairs’ and ‘It Can’t Be’), had brought him fame and earned a title of the People’s Artist of Russia.
