President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko awarded Jemil Karikov, a famous Crimean Tatar composer, folklorist and master of Crimean Tatar music, the ‘Merited Artist of Ukraine' title.
The corresponding Decree was published on the President’s official website.
“Jemil Enverovich Karikov, music editor of ATR TV channel, is hereby awarded the ‘Merited Artist of Ukraine' title,” reads the document.
Jemil Enverovich Karikov was born in the city of Bekabad in 1960. In 1964, his family moved to Sukhumi, where, after graduation from the secondary school, he entered the Sukhumi State School of Music (department of folk instruments). Afterwards he continued his education at the Tashkent State Institute of Culture (department of choral conducting) and Tashkent State Conservatory (theoretical composition faculty). He worked as a musical director of ‘Haytarma’ ensemble, principal conductor of the Crimean Tatar theatre and musical editor of ‘Krym’ State Broadcaster. For the time being, he is a music editor of ATR TV channel and director of the ATR ensemble.
