August 17, at 21:00 local time, the winner of Eurovision 2016, a Ukrainian singer of Crimean Tatar origin Jamala presented Istanbul public with incredible emotions, performing at one of the Turkey's most famous scenes in Cemil Topuzlu Open-Air Theatre.
At the press conference with the Turkish media on August 16, Jamala said that she awaited the concert in Istanbul with great anticipation.
Preparations for the concert started at 17:30 with tuning the equipment, according to Jamala official Facebook account.
At 9 p.m. the hall was filled with the singer’s fans and the performance started. The long-awaited concert charged the audience with unforgettable emotions and impressions.
Among the guests were the leader of the Crimean Tatar people, Ukrainian MP, the Presidential Commissioner on Crimean Tatar affairs Mustafa Dzhemilev, the Chairman of the Crimean Tatar culture Society in Istanbul Jelal Ichten together with other representatives of the organization, the Ukrainian Consul General in Istanbul Vasily Bodnar and, of course, numerous representatives of both Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar diaspora, who were holding the Crimean Tatar flags throughout the concert.
Jamala’s father Alim Dzhamaladin accompanied her playing the accordion at the performance. Apart from loud applause, the audience pleased Jamala and her team singing along to some songs.
Jamal looked really happy at the end of the concert. She thanked the audience in English and Turkish languages, after which the floor was given to the leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev:
“I love her [Jamala -. Ed.], not only for her magnificent voice, but also for her humanity and patriotism. Jamala did not come to our fatherland in the Crimea due to the occupation. But we will save our home from the annexation, God grant it! The American Ambassador in Ukraine told me that they have been trying to tell the world about this injustice over two years. But Jamala managed to do it in three minutes.
The occupants of course, wanted Jamala to take Russian citizenship when she arrived in Crimea. But she replied: "No! I already have a citizenship. I am a citizen of Ukraine." You know that at the Eurovision Jamal competed with the representatives of 30 countries. But the real struggle was between Russia and the Crimean Tatars. And the Crimean Tatars have won, due to Jamala! And I want to thank not only her, but also her father and mother for such a gift.”
Crimean Tatar singer thanked Mustafa Dzhemilev for his kind words, and then she left the stage together with her team.
