Ukrainian Oscar Committee, established under Ukrainian Producers Association, chose three Ukrainian movies to participate in the selection for nomination to Oscar Academy Awards 2013 in the category best foreign language film. The movies are: “Eternal Return” directed by Kira Muratova, “Paradzhanov” by Serge Avedikyan and Elena Fetisova and “Haytarma” directed by Ahtem Seytablayev. Ukrainian Producers Association shared this information. The world premiere of “Eternal return” film took place at the International Rome Film Festival, which took place in November 2012. The movie represented Ukraine in the main competition of the festival. “Eternal return” has already won ‘Nika’ award in 2013, in the category ‘Best CIS and Baltics film’. The world premiere of “Paradzhanov” movie took place on one of the most prestigious international film festivals in Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) in July 2013, where "Paradzhanov" represented Ukraine in the ‘East of the West’ international program. During Odessa International Film Festival in 2013 the movie received “Golden Duke” as best Ukrainian full-length movie. “Haytarma” is the first Crimean Tatar feature-length movie directed by Ahtem Seytablayev. The film is based on real events and narrates the story of Stalin's deportation of Crimean Tatars from Crimea in May 1944. This tragic page in the history of the Crimean Tatar people is shown through the eyes of famous aviator, national hero of Crimean Tatars Ametkhan Sultan. After the liberation of Crimea from German invaders, the military command has authorized Ametkhan (played by Ahtem Seytablaev), together with his comrades to visit his parents in Alupka (Crimea). By coincidence, he became eyewitness of the deportation of Crimean Tatars. Soviet hero, who intimidated German pilots turned unable to protect his people from the crimes of the Stalin regime. The film was released on May 17, 2013. As reported earlier, during August 1-30, the Ukrainian Oscar Committee accepted applications for participation in Oscar Academy Awards 2013 in the category ‘Bet foreign language film’. To be noted, the 86-th Oscar ceremony will take place on March 2, 2014 at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
